She sleeps now, in my lap, her butt cradled between my long, lanky legs as her legs, a mirror of mine, curl into the air. Every now and then she stretches her arms into the sky, grunts, and pokes herself in the eye before she falls back asleep. Since the moment she came out to [...]

I’m still working on writing the story of Nola’s birth. Trying to put it all into words is more time consuming than I ever imagined it could be, but it was an endeavor that isn’t easily explained. And when i get there, when the words emerged, it makes me cry. Nola had fetal stress – [...]

Nine years ago my true love came along when I met Constance. On Sunday afternoon at 4:26 PM, a brand new love came along. Nola Eleanor is finally here, after 18 hours of hard labor and 3 years of waiting. She’s 6 pounds 4 ounces, 18 inches long, and 100 percent awesomeness.

Since we find ourselves living in a world where babies don’t come out on time, we also found ourselves back in the office of our midwives this morning. Fetal monitoring was the order of the day, two blue bands with blue nodes wrapped around Constance’s belly, and we sat in near silence for nearly an [...]

When baby comes, if it happens to be a Calvin and not a Nola, we are opting to forgo circumcision. Our decision has nothing to do with aesthetics or the myth of cleanliness and everything to do with the fact that I can’t bring myself to cut off part of my child’s penis. Especially something [...]

My nine-month stint as the sole changer of cat litter rages on. Feline Pine is our brand of choice because it is the only option that doesn’t end up soiling my bed. Sleeping on sand is one thing - beaches are a great place to catch a quick nap – but sleeping on a trail [...]

Yeah, it must be getting close to time. I just had a little panic attack because I, for some reason, thought, “What if it’s not really in there?”
I know it’s in there, theoretically. I mean, it has to be. God, I’m becoming a paranoid parent as I type. Must stop typing before I begin crafting [...]

Forty weeks today and no baby on the way – at least not in the immediate moments (I’m at work drinking tea, eating a fiber muffin and going about business as usual). It’s an arbitrary number in some ways, I suppose, since so many people go early or late. But what is it about 40 [...]

Our feet dined on a heaping helping of pavement over the weekend – 3 hours’ worth to be exact. Babies come out whenever they are ready, but anecdotal evidence exists for a reason so we thought it worth our while to take these quasi-true stories to the streets.
Walking, spicy foods, pregnant sex, raspberry leaf tea [...]

Yes, we are still pregnant. My reasons for neglecting this here blog are that I’m having trouble figuring out anything new and/or interesting to say as we march toward the great unknown. At our appointment this morning, everything checked out as normal as can be - the only promising sign being some blood in Constance’s [...]
